Short Break Holiday in Denmark

Denmark has become a popular destination, and there are several reasons why the country is visited by more and more tourists.

One reason is the many exciting attractions, but also the fact that there are more and better transport options to Denmark, particularly international flights.

Denmark is statistically one of the safest places to go, and the Danes are known as open-minded and pleasant people. It is not without reason that the Danes have once again been named the world's happiest people, and they have the famous "hygge".

As the second oldest monarchy in the world, Denmark stands out from most countries in the world, and this is something the Danes are very proud. They take care of their royal family, their castles, and their traditions.

In the Nordic countries, there are 3 monarchies - in Sweden, Denmark and Norway.

Denmark´s brave Vikings

It is also known for its dramatic history of the brave Vikings. Everywhere in the country, one can find monuments, markets and museums that tell the story of the Vikings' incredible history.

Best season to visit Denmark

The weather in Denmark changes during the year. If you want to visit Denmark, you can do so year-round, but the best time is from April to October.

Beautiful nature routes

The easiest way to discover Denmark is by self-driving tours. Because of the size, you can explore a lot in Denmark in two or three days. You will find local tour operators, car rental companies and local tourist offices to help you when you arrive.

Throughout Denmark, it is recommended to follow the natural route called the "Marguerite Route". By following this route, you will be sure to see the beautiful nature in Denmark, from beautiful, colourful fields, beautiful woods and hill landscapes to wide sandy beaches.

You can even drive on some of the beaches here on the West coast of Jutland.

Where to start

We recommended that you start your tour in Copenhagen. Use a day in Copenhagen on arrival to recover from the journey and just experience some of the capital`s most prominent attractions, such as Tivoli and Nyhavn.

Kronborg "Hamlet" Castle

On day two, you can drive along "Strandvejen", also called the Danish Riviera, up to Kronborg Castle, also known as "Hamlet" Castle, in the city of Helsingør.

This impressive castle is on the UNESCO World Heritage list and is also famous for Shakespeare's Hamlet. It is recommended to buy a guided tour here.

If you are interested in maritime themes, the Maritime Museum of Denmark is located close to the castle.

In Helsingør, it is recommended to take a lunch break and taste the traditional Danish food products and visit one of the beautiful beaches and small fishing villages like Gilleleje or Hornbæk.

The Museum of National History

Before you go back to your hotel in Copenhagen, we recommend a detour to the Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Palace in Hillerød. You can easily spend 2 or 3 hours here exploring the palace, the museum, and the palace garden.

The museum inside the castle gives you the best insights into the Danish monarchy. Impressive interior design, paintings, treasures and ballrooms are quite remarkable. A guided tour is recommended.

In the footsteps of H.C. Andersen in Odense

Do you have an extra day to spend in Denmark is Funen is an obvious choice.

To get to Funen, you pass the Great Belt bridge (Storebæltsbroen). The bridge is an architectural masterpiece, and a stop before or after the bridge is a good option.

Without any stops, you can reach Odense from Copenhagen within 1,5 hours' drive. When you arrive in Odense, you can see that Hans Chr. Andersen grew up here. Anywhere in the city, you will find indications about Andersen.

During the summer, you will find many H.C. Andersen events in Odense, but there are some irresistible Andersen attractions you have to explore.

By visiting the Hans Chr. At the Andersen Museum, you get a perfect view of the world-famous fairytale writer´s life and birthplace.

Take a break after the museum in one of the cosy restaurants in the neighbourhood.
