Greenland Ice Sheet

Icebergs are unique work of nature, and their magnificence and majesty must be experienced on firsthand.

No Icebergs are the same, but in countless different shapes and sizes - and if you are lucky, you can see icebergs that contain beautiful openings that form tempting passages to sail through.

The Ice Cap

Icebergs consist of heavily compacted snow that fell on the Greenlandic ice cap several thousand years ago - in some cases more than 15,000 years ago. The tallest icebergs are at a height corresponding to a 15-storey building above the surface of the ocean, whilst the smallest are about the size of a hut."

Beautiful spots

You will find around Ilulissat and Uummannaq are particularly well-known as the source of many large icebergs that break off the glaciers in the deep fjords. But also in Southern Greenland, you will find smaller icebergs as much beautiful as in the north.

You will have to remember that you can only see the top of the iceberg, 7/8 of an iceberg is left to your imagination.
