Valdemar Castle is one of Funen`s most beautiful castles surrounded by amazing nature.
The castle was built 1639-44 for prince Valdemar, son of famous Christian IV and Kirstine Munk. Valdemar was only 8 years old when he took over the castle, which was then called Valdemar Castle and it was redesigned in classical Renaissance style.
Valdemar’s Castle has belonged to the see hero Niels Juel since 1678, and today is owned by the 12th generation which lives at the Castle.
In 1754, Niels Juel the Younger undertook a redevelopment and expansion of the castle and gave the main building its present appearance. The castle still belongs to this family. You can also visit the Restaurant, the Tea Pavilion or the Apple Orchard.
Valdemar’s Castle is situated close to Svendborg and an old skipper town Troense and with an amazing view to the Archipelago with the islands Langeland and Thurø
