The Danish artist Bertel Thorvaldsen is known worldwide for his work, and there is nowhere else in the world can you experience his works of art more detailed than at Thorvaldsens Museum.


First public museum

Thorvaldsen lived between 1770 and 1844 and the museum, which by the way was the first public museum in Denmark, present the extensive life’s work of the sculptor.

The museum offers a wide selection of Thorvaldsen's drawings and sketches for sculptures and reliefs.

As a passionate collector, the museum shows extensive collections of paintings from his own time and collections of artworks and objects from Greek, Roman and Egyptian antiquity.

During the museum season, you will find different exhibitions that go into greater depth with aspects of the permanent collections, including contemporary art.
