The Buried Church

The buried church is a result of natural forces.

The shifting dunes have helped to shape Skagen for centuries. The result of the incredible amounts of sand in this stunning natural area in Denmark can be seen in several places in Skagen, but one of the best examples is The Buried Church.

Church history

It was originally built in the 1400s and was then the largest church in the area. The local`s were struggling about bury the church from sand in the early 1600s.

Until 1795 fought local´s digging the church free. Today visitors  can free go to experience the church by the beach, where you will discover it is only the church tower is visible. The rest of the church is buried by sand.
