Reykjavik Art Museum

The Reykjavik Art Museum is the largest art museum in Iceland.

The exhibitions are parted up in three different buildings located in central Reykjavik, named Hafnarhús, Kjarvalsstaðir, and Ásmundarsafn.

Art exhibitions

The Museum regularly present works by three of Iceland’s most renowned artists; Erró, Kjarval, and Ásmundur Sveinsson.

You will also find various exhibitions by Icelandic and international artists. The Museum is also like to present a venue for new talented talents.

The exhibitions showcase everything from the historic to our times, and from the traditional to the very peripheries of art.

In general, The Museum’s exhibitions run for 3-4 months, and new exhibitions normally open up in the beginning of the year, in spring, and in autumn.

Reykjavík Art Museum oversees the City’s art collection, such as open-air artwork, and it boasts of many of the most famous works by Icelandic artist, with the total collection counting roughly seventeen thousand works.

The Museum hosts diverse cultural happenings, staging over a hundred events from lectures and seminars to unusual concerts.

Festivals & Events

The Art Museum also work together with several major events and festivals throughout the year. To mentioned Museum Night, Reykjavik Art Festival, Design March, and Culture Night.
