Old Bergen Museum

Experience the atmosphere about how it was to live in the 1800s Bergen when you visit this beautiful natural place.

Old Bergen Museum is an open-air museum with about 50 wooden houses from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Many of them were moved when areas of the city were rebuilt and stood originally in the centre of Bergen.

Bergen was Europe`s biggest wooden city in the 1800`s and in this open air museum, you can meet people from the past as masters and servants and the role players help to bring the museum to life.

The Frydenlund manor house in old Bergen (Gamle Bergen). It was built in the 1790s for a merchant, as a summer residence in the Sandviken area.

The Museum opened in 1946 and Old Bergen Foundation succeeded in establishing the museum and saved Bergen's old buildings.

In few years a new visitor centre will be opened in Old Bergen Museum.
