Narvik is the best gateway to the islands Lofoten and Vesterålen. You can reach them by both ferry and road. Narvik`s port is always ice-free thanks to the Gulf Stream.

Narvik`s history

The establishment of Narvik is quite fascinating and connected to Kiruna in Northern Sweden. Since the ending of the 1800 century iron ore has been recovered here, but no suitable neighbouring port existed here. A Swedish company established a series railway to Narvik, using its ice-free port as smoothly port for sending iron ore out to the rest of the world. The significant development in the iron ore business led to the development of Narvik.


The Ofotbanen - railway between Narvik and Kiruna

Nowadays travellers benefit from history by taking the railway between Narvik and Kiruna. The trip takes you through a historical, beautiful and wild landscape. Give yourself the opportunity to take the train in a unique landscape from fjords to the mountains, with a breathtaking view. Ofotbanen is one of the most spectacular railway lines in the world.

Getting to Narvik

Narvik has a strategic good location an is known as the gateway to Northern Norway and Arctic experiences and the European route E6 runs through Narvik.

It is close to Evenes, the Harstad/Narvik airport, and it is an hour to reach Narvik by car or bus. Flight companies as SAS, Widerøe and Norgewian have connections to Narvik.
