Christiansholm Fortress

This historical monument fortress built 1672 by Fredrik III once guarded and protected the city centre from pirates and rambunctious Swedes.

In the city of Kristiansand feature the most prominent attractions along the Strandpromenade named Christiansholm Fortress.

The construction of the Fortress was very thorough, and the walls were up to 5 m thick and an armoury buried within a concentric inner wall. It was connected to the mainland by a bridge over a moat.

Christiansholm fortress has a proud achievement never was taken by enemy forces.

Today it is open from 15 May to 15 September from  09.00-21.00. Guiding by appointment.
