Midnight Sun in Sweden

The Midnight Sun is visible around 24 hours a day above the Arctic Circle in Northern Sweden.

In Sweden, you find many great places to watch the midnight sun and the number of days you can watch the Midnight Sun extend the closer you are to the North Pole. If you are close to the Arctic Circles, it is possible to watch the Midnight Sun for around 30 days, and if you go further north to the town Abisko, the Midnight Sun is visible from May 27 - July 18.

It is a fantastic experience to watch the Sun in the middle of the night, which is possible in the northern part of Sweden - also called Swedish Lapland.

How is it possible to see the Midnight Sun

Midnight Sun is when the Sun never sets in the summer, so the  Midnight Sun is 24 hours of sunlight, keeping the Arctic illuminated 24/7.

This happens because the Earth rotates at a tilted axis relative to the Sun. During the summer, the North Pole is angled towards our star, and for several weeks, the Sun never sets above the Arctic Circle. Therefore, it is possible to watch the sun in the middle of the night in northern Sweden.

Where and when to see Midnight Sun

You can see the Midnight Sun in places like Jookmokk, Kiruna, Abisko, Björkliden and Gällivare.
