Christiansborg Palace on Slotsholmen is the residence of the Danish Parliament and the Supreme Court.

At Christiansborg Palace, the Queen carry out her official duties, and in the palace’s Royal Reception Rooms,  the Queen receives heads of state and holds public audiences. The palace church and most of the Riding Ground Complex is also available to the Royal Family.

The first castle was built in 1740

The first Christiansborg Palace was built in 1740 and named after King Christian VI, but a big fire destroyed it just 54 years later in 1794. Only the stable survived, and here you still can find the royal horses. Another fire in 1884 means that the palace complex shows three different eras of Danish architecture.

As a result of two fires in 1794 and 1884, the palace complex bears testimony to three eras of Danish architecture.

Visit the royal stables

In the Riding Ground Complex, you can visit the Theatre Museum and The Royal Stables. Beneath Christiansborg, visitors can see the ruins of two even older castles.
